Stage 1: Transport

Contaminated instruments should be handled carefully to prevent exposure using appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment). Instruments should be placed in an appropriate sealed, leak proof container (displaying a biohazard symbol) at the point of use to prevent percutaneous injuries during transport to the instrument processing area.

Instrument reprocessing begins immediately after patient treatment -  from safely transporting instruments in a container labeled with biohazard symbols, to cleaning and inspection, no step in the instrument reprocessing chain should be overlooked.
